Dear Little Me,
“Most of us were taught that God would love us if and when we change. In fact, God loves you so that you can change. What empowers change, what makes you desirous of change is the experience of love. It is that inherent experience of love that becomes the engine of change.”
― Richard Rohr
Dear Little Me,
Allow me to introduce myself. It’s you, but from later in life. I’m here to send Good News! You’re going to make it. Yes, through the rough and tumble childhood that never seems to get enjoyment in the sun. Yes, through the solitude that comes with abandonment and neglect. Yes, through the hard hits and even harder insults. God is with you and He has a plan.
No amount of despair, anger, abuse, or uncertainty is going to stop God from placing you on the path he has paved for you. You know why? God is bigger than any of your toughest times and He just will not stop seeking you until you finally see Him. He is turning this all around for your good and His will right now. I don’t believe what you’re going through now is part of the plan, but listen here Little Me. He’s going to do great wonders with your situation.
Now I know you were told there was no saving you. I know you were made to believe God doesn’t love kids who tell white lies. They were so wrong! He loved you before you were even formed. He loved you even before there were dinosaurs! He loves you more than you love Whitney Houston, can you believe that?!
You just hold on, because its going to get bumpy. There’s a rough road ahead of you because, sadly, you aren’t aware of all the love God has for you. You aren’t accustomed to free grace. You aren’t used to forgiveness. You surely aren’t aware of the freedom found in faith. You’re going to mess up big time. Everything between using whole cans of Aqua Net and Rave hairspray to losing everything and everyone to drugs and alcohol. From putting mineral oil in your sister’s water to hating yourself so much you’d rather die than take another breath. Here’s the catch. He stayed right there. He pulled you out of the trenches so many times, you just didn’t know it was him keeping you alive.
It is not until later that you join the Divine Flow He’s been pulling you to. I won’t spoil the surprise, but let’s just say He used the front door. I guess the Father got tired of you ignoring all of His blessings. Life isn’t perfect here either, but there’s a place of comfort in the river of Faith. There’s a level of serenity knowing we have a merciful, loving, and always present Father.
My dearest Little Me there is hope. There is light. There is love. Just hang on, beloved. There is brighter better days coming, all because of grace freely given. Yes, He even loves you through all that hairspray! ( Spoiler Alert: I’m pretty sure God has taken care of the hairspray epidemic.)
Grace & Mercy
