I spend a lot of time on Twitter, probably too much. I noticed a lot of grief over the current state of American Christianity. There are so many people admitting they have left the Church. I found myself encouraging the religious “dones” to hang in there. “We are trying to show Jesus, it’s just that we do not hold the bullhorn right now,” was my usual effort. One day someone asked in reply, “Well, why don’t you take the bullhorn?” I couldn’t help but think I didn’t really want the bullhorn, but I knew I still had to take action. So now you have my blog.
In my open letter to these “evangelists” (found here), I was pretty harsh, but still wanted to show grace. You see, they are religious cacophony, and they have the bullhorn. They stand behind America’s pulpit and they are very similar to who Paul was referring to in 1 Corinthians.
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.”
1 Corinthians 13:1 NIV
In other words, cacophony.
We are seeing a change, a light. With hashtags trending like #MoralRevival, pages like mine and I’m Not That Kind Of Christian, and people like you, we can take back the bullhorn. We can create a world where we serve and love God and one another. We can do this!
