Yesterday we brought in the new year! I took a day to be absolutely lazy and get some much-needed down time. Therefore, I missed yesterday’s Twelve Days of Christmas post. Today, I’ll be doing both yesterday’s and today’s.
Send your light and truth—those will guide me!
Let them bring me to your holy mountain,
to your dwelling place.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Just as the Magi used the lit shining star to find their way to Jesus, others do the same with Christians. Yet, there are a lot of people saying that Jesus seems pretty awesome, but those darn Christians keep getting in the way. It makes me wonder what basket my lamp is under. How is my darkness blocking the way for someone to meet Jesus? I’m not perfect, by any means. But I can still strive everyday to be a little better than I was the day before.
My whole life, I have always had a stewing anger that boils over at the most inopportune of times. Since starting my new journey with Jesus, I have simmered more than stewed, but if I want my light to shine brighter, I must handle the boiling. I have to let go of the notion that I’m in control, because quite frankly, I am nowhere near in control of anything but my reactions.
I think this year, everyday, I’ll wake up and declare a boil-free day. Step-by-step, day-by-day.
Do you have plans to make this year the year you brighten your light?
