Twelve Days of Christmas: Shedding The Darkness

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

John 8:12 (ESV)

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

The darkness of our false selves can be shed with the teachings of Jesus. Justice, peace, mercy, grace, and love are all part of who we truly are and Jesus shows us how to become our true selves.

Jesus is not just some cool guy that lived a great life and died a horrible death, all so that we may get into heaven. I believe Jesus says he is The Way out of darkness, for our lives here on earth. For me, there is no better proof to this than the Lord’s Prayer. “On earth as it is in Heaven.”

It is dark to live a life full of greed, gluttony, hate, pride, and without mercy. Jesus teaches us all trough out the Gospels how to live in the light.

The Magi are following the light, still. As we watch the travel of the Magi these last few days, think about in what ways can your light brighten through Jesus.
